Dress Code: White Tie

At the Vienna Opera Ball all gentlemen are supposed to wear an evening tail suit, alternatively a dress uniform. Any other outfit is not accepted. The ladies should wear a long evening dress.

The evening tail suit (of course made by WILVORST) is the king of festive evening wear for men: timeless, masculine, precious - the official garment for absolute festive occasions.

As a rule of thumb: the evening tail suit should be worn after 3 p.m. or even better after nightfall. If on an invitation card the dress code "white tie" is mentioned it means the evening tail suit should be worn. The evening tail suit is the right outfit for very elegant weddings, balls, festive premieres, state banquets or receptions of the European royal dynasties. The styling of the evening tail suit and the combination of all the single elements is important. The classic evening tail suit is to be combined with the white, deep cut-out waistcoat of piqué, a matching white evening shirt with the front of piqué as well as a piqué bowtie. For the perfect look classic black patent leather shoes are combined. The highlight of this outfit: the top hat! The top hat is the head dress for most festive occasions in combination with the evening tails suit. Usually it can be folded (that's why it also is called Chapeau Claque). This head dress already was fashionable during the first half of the 19th century.

The WILVORST evening tail outfits are exclusively available in specialized retail stores.

"Everybody waltz“ – at the Vienna Opera Ball Men wear Evening Tail Suits

With almost 12.000 visitors the opera ball is one of the top events of the ball season. It attracts not only debutants but also many prominent people from all over Europe and even from the United States.

The tradition of the opera ball goes back to the time of 1814 /1815 - the time of the Congress of Vienna. At the present location - the Vienna State Opera House the ball took place for the first time on December 11th, 1877. A ball with tradition! The first ball with the name Vienna Opera Ball took place in 1935 for charitable purposes. Traditionally the opera ball is opened by about 180 couples. After the opening dance the command "all waltz" invites all other guests to come to the dance floor and dance. Since the 1990s the ball sometimes causes a sensation because of the special guests of Richard Lugner, an Austrian constructor. The list of the special guests who have taken seat in his not very inexpensive loge is long. Ivana Trump, Paris Hilton and Pamela Anderson as well as Dita von Teese are only some of them.
